Tools and methodologies for genome annotation: inference from evidence
The aim of this workshop is to give participants a detailed overview of different annotation tools and methodologies used to annotate various organisms, including prokaryotes, protozoa, vertebrates and plants.
The workshop will be comprised of four presentations and live demos to give insights into the strengths and weaknesses of different annotation tools and analysis pipelines used for genome annotation. Presentation topics will include standard annotation practices, annotation consistency checks and Rule-Based annotation.
The tools to be demonstrated will include Manatee, Apollo, Zmap, Artemis and ACT. Presenters will also discuss incorporation of different data types including RNAseq transcriptome data, conservation data and proteomics data to improve gene models.
At the end of the workshop there will be a discussion session where organisers and participants can highlight specific issues raised in the talks and how the different communities can collaborate to improve methods of annotation.
